I was approached by the Unhinged Quartet to write this piece after spending time with them at the 2023 Brass Institutes of America Festival. They told me they wanted the seasons - 4 movements, each featuring a different member of their quartet. I set out to capture the energy and environment each season gave off to me. I imagine Autumn as a warm sunset accompanied by the falling of leaves and gentle wind. Winter is in the middle of a brisk snowstorm with trees and bushes dancing under the weather. Spring is the dewey morning with thick mist covering the forest as the sun warms the earth. Summer is empowered by the fun of the season and all of the activities which bring people joy.
